Korver D. Alcohol-related crashes in the United States. Presented at the 2016 Joint Statitics Meeting (JSM); August 2, 2016. Chicago, IL.

Facts about drunk driving can be seen in many public places. On the website, Mothers against drunk driving or MADD, the organization has a factsheet that pertain to the number of people that drink and drive on a regular basis and how many of those actually get caught; to the costs of drunk driving. Using GES data on the Department of Transportation website, I want to take a look at the characteristics of alcohol-related crashes in the United States. I am going to investigate the when and where alcohol-related crashes occur. Do the majority of alcohol-related crashes really occur early in the morning? What type of roadway? Is the occurrence of an alcohol-related crash more likely to happen on the interstate or two-lane highway? What day of the week has the highest occurrence of alcohol-related crashes?
