This webinar will explore why and how to use qualitative research methods in conjunction with discrete choice experiments in healthcare. Speakers will discuss formative qualitative research for the identification and generation of attributes and levels and qualitative research for testing survey comprehension and decision-making processes.
Part 1 will cover the recently published guidelines for reporting qualitative research in stated preference studies. This part will provide a brief overview of the guideline development process, highlights from the guidelines, and tips for effective reporting of qualitative research.
Part 2 will cover qualitative research to understand participant survey comprehension and decision making. This will include a brief overview of economic theories of choice, pre-testing/piloting techniques including pre-experiment, eg, cognitive interviews, concurrent methods, eg, think-aloud, and post-experimental approaches, eg, debriefing. Throughout the webinar, examples will be used to illustrate how different qualitative approaches can inform a quantitative stated preference study.
Learning Objectives: After attending this webinar, participants will be able to understand: • How rigour is demonstrated in the reporting of qualitative research; • Uses of different data collection and analytical techniques for qualitative research; • The methods and steps for reporting formative qualitative research for health preference research; • When to use qualitative research methods before, during, and after designing a quantitative stated preference study.
